PAPER ENGINEER AND DESIGNER
I design pop-up books, advertisements, greeting cards and toys, ranging from highly complex spreads to simple, elegant artworks. My clients include Insight Editions (The Walking Dead: The Pop-Up Book), Up With Paper,
For four years I worked alongside bestselling author and paper engineer Matthew Reinhart (Game of Thrones: A Pop- Up Guide to Westeros; Star Wars: The Pop-Up Guide to the Galaxy) in his busy and innovative studio. Previously I worked with paper engineer Sam Ita, creator of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea: A Pop-Up Book and other titles. I studied paper engineering at the Center for Book Arts in New York City and at Pratt Institute with New York Times bestselling pop-up book creator Kyle Olmon.
Clients know me as a collaborative, honest, flexible partner in the design process who works hard to get the details right and create an amazing product.
I have expertise in Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop.
Making pop-ups offers a great mix of math, problem-solving, creativity and fun - the heart of the S.T.E.A.M. movement in education. As a former teacher, I especially enjoy opportunities to conduct workshops with children and adults. I've been a guest artist at The Cooper Hewitt Smithsonian Design Museum; the book arts program at The Cooper Union; Bank Street Writer's Lab conferences; and in schools in New York City and Chapel Hill, NC. Please contact me to discuss a workshop or series of lessons tailored to your group.
Sometimes I wear a writer's hat, too. I reviewed a number of children's books for The New York Times Book Review and the Junior Library Guild. I served on the Children's Book Committee at Bank Street College.
I live and work in beautiful Chapel Hill, NC.
